Thank You for your support of Viva Las Vegas!

The Dancer’s Alchemy Inc. would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to all of the community businesses and people who supported our 2nd annual “Viva Las Vegas” Casino Night Fundraiser through sponsorships, ticket sales, or donations for our raffle prizes and silent auction. The event was attended by close to 140 people who enjoyed delicious food prepared by Chef Jeremy Carrier of Sweet Waters Restaurant, a performance by The Dancer’s Edge Company, and of course authentic casino style gaming presented by Casino Party Nights Florida, Inc..
The evening was enjoyed by parents, families, friends, dance teachers, community business people, and arts organizations. The night ended with a decadent display of coffee and desserts to sweeten the announcement of the winners of the silent auction and raffle prizes. Grande prizes included a $750 cruise voucher and Orchestra seats to the Queen and Adam Lambert concert at the BB&T center later this year. We are very thankful for everyone’s generosity and coming together as a community to honor the importance of the arts in the lives of our youth and the spectators of all ages who enjoy them. A special thank you to our Chairperson, Roger Dunson, and the wonderful Committee that worked many hours to make our event fun and very successful!

Pine Crest School’s Dance Etc. to Perform at A Love Affair to Honor Joan Miller

Brenda Gooden, Dance Director at Pine Crest School and her talented dancers, Dance Etc.,  will participate in A Love Affair: An Evening of Dance to Honor Joan Miller with Reception to follow on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 7pm.

After graduating from the University of Oklahoma with a BFA in Ballet Pedagogy, Brenda danced professionally with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre.  She desired a warmer climate which led to her moving to Fort Lauderdale, where she taught at the Atlantic Foundation’s Academy for the Performing Arts.  It was during this time that Brenda met and worked with Miss Joan during a collaboration between the Academy and Joan’s Palm Beach Ballet.  Brenda taught for Miss Joan for several years, as she established the dance department at Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale and helped to establish the performing group, “Dance Etc”. She is  completing her 35th year as Dance Director at Pine Crest and almost 40 years of friendship with our beloved Miss Joan.

Her Morning Elegance, music by Oren Lavie, will be performed by Pine Crest School’s Dance Etc.  This lovely interpretive, contemporary piece was choreographed by faculty member and Pine Crest graduate, Ashley Hammond (class of 2012).

A Love Affair will be held at Countess de Hoernle Theatre at Spanish River Community High School: 5100 Jog Road Boca Raton, FL 33496

Bak Middle School of the Arts to Perform in A Love Affair

We are excited to announce that Bak Middle School of the Arts Dance Department will be performing to honor Joan Miller in the upcoming Love Affair Benefit performance!  This group has about 190 dance majors in grades 6-8, four full time faculty, and one Artist in Residence for West African Dance. Their mission is to develop technically proficient dancers who are versatile, thoughtful, and inquisitive. Guided by professionals in the field, the dancers train in classical ballet, a variety of modern and jazz styles, and cultural dances.

Through daily classes, rehearsals, and performances, these dancers develop creativity, discipline, and perseverance.  Field trips and residencies with American Dance Legacy Initiative and other guest teachers enhance the students’ growth in arts and academics. Performance opportunities include our annual concert, The Love Affair, Florida Honors Concert, MSOA Foundation events, Starfest at Bak, and Young Dancers in Concert. They are proud to have an active chapter of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts that supports dance programs through Very Special Arts Palm Beach and serves the community through dance.

Bak will be performing a modern piece, Flow Form, by Ruth Andrien, former Paul Taylor dancer.

A Love Affair: An Evening of Dance to Honor Joan Miller is a benefit performance hosted by The Dancer’s Alchemy.  All proceeds will go toward the care of Miss Joan Miller, Palm Beach Ballet Icon, who is living with Alzheimer’s.  Miss Joan has made a huge impact across the dance community, often providing dance scholarships to those in need, and this performance is our way of giving back.
